Overly Possessed – A Short Film Directed by Weston Schindler (2016)
As a couple is watching a movie one night they hear something in the other room. They soon get caught in a struggle of unearthly forces, as two bickering demons become trapped in their mortal bodies and cannot return to the underworld until their mission has been met.
When Daemon, a powerful (but prideful) demon from the Underworld possesses yet another human to add to his impressive List of Souls Possessed, he feels he is on his way to become the Supreme Demon of the Underworld. However, when bumbling Beezle, a new demon intern, possesses the body of Daemon’s next human target, the two must find a way to fix their current situation in order to return to the Underworld.
Creating and Producing a Comedy Horror Short Film
The idea for Overly Possessed has been one that has been on my mind for quite a few years now. It was selected by a group of students working together in a short film class at BYU-Idaho and produced between October to December of 2016. One of the most important elements to the production was definitely casting and production design. Getting the look just right was key towards selling the possessed humans as demons and then letting the actors bring their characters to life (ironically enough).
After the script was green-lit was then time to take the production team and actors together and begin nailing down all the specific pieces of the short film. Working with such wonderful individuals such as Ethan Pyle as the DP, Allison Fuhriman and Jordan Christiensen on production and sound design, as well as our wonderful actors Andrew Schindler and Jessica Lifferth, the story came to life!
The Short Film Premieres on the Big Screen
On December 14th, from 6-8pm, all the selected short films from BYU-Idaho’s short film class will premiere at the Fatcat’s theater with a full house. This opportunity is unlike anything that anyone on the production team has been a part of and it was truly a daunting thought at first to know that our film would be held to such high levels of expectations, but with production coming to a close, Overly Possessed was born to be on the silver screen.
