Lighting Portraits with Continuous Lighting

I’m not going to lie, but continuous lighting may be my favorite kind of auxiliary lighting out there. One of the many reasons for this is because you can see the look of the image right there in front of you. It’s also the preferred method used in film and video production. When I was taking pictures of Morgan, Janae, and Cody I was able to play around with the lights in order to fill in their features on their faces. With some final tweaks in Adobe Lightroom we get amazing results that look like studio quality photos; mostly because they are studio quality photos!

Taking it outside

Man, who says you can’t take your lights outside? Tell them to stop saying that because you can’t stop me, especially when I’ve got outlets to plug in my lights! But seriously, it saves the battery life from my external flash to use lights like this and you still get the detail from the world behind Janae too because her face is nicely exposed, thanks to the continuous light source.

To wrap it up I just wanted to show these awesome pictures I got of Cody. The flexibility of the lights are awesome and by throwing up the white background you can have an instant background for nearly any model or subject you can think of to photograph.

If you want to look at some lights if you want to do your own studio level photography, head on over to B&H Photo Video. They may break your bank, but you’ll get some super sick equipment while you’re at it!
