When the Cinema and Photographs Meet

I want to start things off by explaining that cinemagraphs are not just simply gifs; they are selective gifs that only move in one place. They really are a blend of photography and film and show so much to offer as far as catching ones eye to keep watching and look for those changes in movement or composition.

This right here was my very first test. I was sure to keep my camera on a tripod and not move it as I poured some juice into my mug. The effect was then created in photoshop by selecting only parts of the composition. 

For my second attempt I got my lovely wife to be my wonderful model and I had another idea to do; have the steam move and nothing else. This was a bit tricky as I had to light the steam in a very particular way but I am very pleased with the end result.
